Nice Tomatoes!

Here's the harvest for Wednesday, 7/28/10!  I forgot to include Ron's peppers...he picked a small bowlful.

I think I'll start off by canning a red tomato sauce made with the Cherokee Purples, the Romas, and some other random veggies; and a batch made up with the White Wonders and Green Zebras, with a healthy dose of some of the copious amounts of basil that I have.  I'm curious to see if the White Wonders retain their pretty color when they're cooked.

THE BEGINNING OF TOMATO MADNESS!!!

The tomato madness has begun...here's a photo of the tomato yield for Tuesday, 7/27/10.  And we are just at the very beginning of the harvest, so this is nothing compared to what's still on the vine, waiting to ripen.  With nearly 30 tomato plants, I think I'll have my hands full in a couple of weeks!

The varieties you see, from right to left, are Green Zebra, White Wonder, Cherokee Purple (all heirloom tomatoes), and one lone Roma.  The Cherokee Purple tomatoes have horizontal cracking from my inexperienced attempts at watering--that is, they were not getting enough.  Lesson learned!
